Funeral Resources

Choosing the elements of a funeral for a loved one can be overwhelming, so I’ve put together a series of examplar poetry and music you may wish to choose from.

Poetry and Readings

“Nothing Gold Can Stay / Nature’s first green is gold, / Her hardest hue to hold. / Her early leaf’s a flower; / But only so an hour. / Then leaf subsides to leaf. / So Eden sank to grief, / So dawn goes down to day. / Nothing gold can stay.”

Robert Frost

“There’s a special Angel in Heaven // That is a part of me. // It is not where I wanted her // but where God wanted her to be. / She was here but just a moment / like a night time shooting star / And though she is in Heaven, / she isn’t very far. / She touched the hearts of many / like only Angels can. / I would’ve held her every minute / If I’d only known God’s plan. / So I send this special message / to the Heavens up above. / Please take care of my Angel / and send her all my love.”

“My Hero / You held my hand when I was small / You caught me when I fell / You are the hero of my childhood / And my later years as well / And every time I think of you / My heart still fills with pride / Though I will always miss you Dad / I know you’re by my side / In laughter and in sorrow / In sunshine and in rain / I know you’re watching over me / Until we meet again.

You can shed tears that he is gone, / Or you can smile because he lived, / You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back, / Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left. // Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him / Or you can be full of the love that you shared, / You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, / Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. // You can remember him and only that he is gone / Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on, / You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back, / Or you can do what he would want: / smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

I’ve finished life’s chores assigned to me, / So put me on a boat headed out to sea. / Please send along my fishing pole / For I’ve been invited to the fishin’ hole. // Where every day is a day to fish, / To fill your heart with every wish. / Don’t worry, or feel sad for me, / I’m fishin’ with the Master of the sea // We will miss each other for awhile, / But you will come and bring your smile. / That won’t be long you will see, / Till we’re together you and me. // To all of those that think of me, / Be happy as I go out to sea. / If others wonder why I’m missin’ / Just tell ’em I’ve gone fishin’.

Dalmar Pepper

God saw her getting tired, a cure was not to be. / He wrapped her in his loving arms // And whispered ‘Come with me.’ / She suffered much in silence, her spirit did not bend. / She faced her pain with courage, until the very end. / She tried so hard to stay with us // But her fight was not in vain, / God took her to His loving home / And freed her from the pain.

I’ll outline some musical suggestions here, but for a more extensive range, and to really get the feeling of each track, listen to our Spotify playlists.
